The caddisfly: insects with aquatic larvae who strengthen their silk cocoons with debris foraged from the environment.

Bits of sand, gravel, twigs—all add up to create beautiful fortifications that are unique for each little harvester.

Caddisfly Creations is inspired by this same principle in starting small, with what you have, in order to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Assemblage pieces, with respect to the natural world, are created with sustainable and ethically sourced resources, including domes, framing and craft materials which are second-hand and have been collected from creative reuse organizations.

About the Artist

Sean Weaver grew up in Cottage Grove, Oregon—a small town about two-hours drive South of Portland. His adolescent habit of collecting acorns only expanded as he got older. Handsome pebbles, lonely butterfly wings, little twigs, mummified bugs in windowsills—everything became a treasure and eventually found itself with friends in organized boxes. Besides the assemblage pieces Sean creates with these small treasures, he is also a macramé artist, painter and insect taxidermist with work inspired by nature and natural sciences.

Currently lives in Portland, OR with his partner Josh, and their dog Squid.
